With the embrace of Internet media—now infiltrating our televisions to replace cable—we can instantly search, stream, and share video gems ranging from one-time TV episodes to raw home movies. Our attention is demanded more often, our desires to customize our media intake increased, and a creation of a new form of instant interactive entertainment evolved: muting videos to synch with music to discover unintentional moments of synergy. Over time, the brain can be trained to make sense of the two joined together. I am certain teens were doing this back when they had to play records with VHS tapes (e.g. The Wizard of Oz and Dark Side of the Moon), but the media store has never before been this accessible and stocked. These pairings are comprised of my own findings and one that has already been produced (#1), with my commentary included.

Please note: This is an interactive article. When applicable, mute the video and press play on the SoundCloud track.

1. THE CONCEPT AS MUSIC VIDEO. Too good of a discovery not to make it into a music video.

This music video concept had to come from a random instant pairing discovered by rapper and artist Kool A.D. (formerly of Das Racist), who synched together found footage of two performance artists from the 70's and producer Scoop DeVille's backing track for the Kendrick Lamar track "The Recipe," with Kool A.D. and Himanshu's vocals over the track. What found what first, this video or his lyrics? The two characters become playful monstrous conductors to the hypnotic loops of the track. Enough stimulation to make you feel stoned alone.

2. RON HARRIS'S AEROBOCIZE VIDEOS X DEATH GRIPS

This chick must be on some heavy adrenaline to work out as hard as MC Ride spits game. The combination is intensely erotic, reworking the visuals from 70's softcore exercise porn to bondage club modernity.

3. KENNETH ANGER'S SCORPIO RISING (1963) X NICHOLAS JAAR (LIVE)

This 1963 experimental short film already contains no dialogue and was accompanied by a rich soundtrack for its time. Today, the flickers in the edits and the lighting in the film synch beautifully with the rhythmic improvisations of Brooklyn-based house producer Nicolas Jaar's live sets.

4. END OF SAMSARA (BUDDHA WITH A THOUSAND HANDS DANCE) (2011) X m∞n - "Om"

The documentary Samsara illustrates how the flow of universe is a connected full circle. The movie's final scene shows the Chinese Buddhist thousand hands dance performed by all deaf and mute females. Further enhancing this glimpse into their world is m∞n 's trip hop trance track that he has produced to personify his own life experiences. The results generate a visually crisp metaphysical experience almost too creepy-perfect.

5. 9-1/2 WEEKS SEX SCENE WITH FOOD AND WITH KIM BASINGER BLINDFOLDED X BOODY & LE1F - "SODA"

This pairing is my favorite, mostly because the scene appears way more loaded with the track's bubble-pop sound effect and gripping melody. (The strawberries make an especially adorable sound.) Kim Basinger's grossed-out expressions really complete the match.

If you have any of your own pairings that are your personal faves, feel free to send them my way: revieweditor@thedestroyermag.com.
